I was born in Jeremie, a southern city in Haiti that many call the cradle of Haitian poets given that so many of the country’s great poets were born there. I moved to Port-au-Prince, Haiti’s capital, at a young age and that is where I discovered my passion for music during my formative years. My older brother Raynaldo is the one who first introduced me to guitar and taught me the first chords. I quickly discovered that I had a natural ability for the instrument and the rest is history. I became involved in my church choir, played at school musicals, and participated in various songwriting contests.
I am a songwriter and guitar player with considerable experience playing in various leading Haitian bands. Early in my career, I co-founded Splash and Kreyol, two bands that focused on Kreyol Jazz/Fusion, Rock and various rythms of Haitian music. I have played and traveled the world with Boukman Eksperyans a Haitian Rasin band. That experience led to the formation of Boukan Ginen, a band that I co-founded and led through two albums. My work has been featured on the albums of some of the most renowned Haitian artists including Beethova Obas, Emeline Michel and Reginald Policard, to name a few. My recent work has primarily been on producing and arranging music of various genres.
Jimmylogy – my latest and first solo album - is the perfect blend of the various genres that infuse my music: Kreyol and Modern Jazz, Worldbeat, Rock, and Haitian Rasin. I aspire to reach people across the world through my music, the message that it carries and the emotions that it evokes – music is universal and it is the perfect vehicle for our common humanity.
